Student council elections took place this past week, giving students across every grade the chance to vote for leaders who will represent the school next year. Candidates delivered their campaign speeches on March 11, sharing their ideas, goals, and plans for improving student life.
Voting officially opened on March 12, allowing students from all grades to participate in choosing the next group of student leaders. Every student had the option to vote for ASB President, ASB Vice President, and ASB Board Representative. In addition, each class voted for their own class president and three class officers.
During the speeches, it was clear that every candidate cared deeply about representing their classmates. Many spoke about improving school spirit, organizing better events, and making sure student voices are heard. Even though only a few candidates won, the effort and passion shown by everyone who ran helped make the election meaningful and showed how much students want to be involved in the school community.
To learn more about what these newly elected leaders hope to accomplish, we spoke with several of the candidates about their goals and ideas.
Dylan Stein, a candidate running for ASB board Representative, stated “So I have a lot of change in mind, but I also understand this position isn’t just about what I think should be better. It’s about actually going out and talking to people about what they think is better. I also know a wide range of people with different perspectives so that helps me culminate one opinion to convey to the school board.”
Another student, Gavin Sussman, who was elected as sophomore class officer said, “I want to make our class more spirited, more social, and make everyone feel like they belong by having more social events that people are actually excited to go to. I also offer a unique perspective to the board by being a part of different clubs on campus.”
After the votes were counted, several positions were decided. Samantha Rosen was chosen as ASB President. For ASB Board representative, Dylan Milne was selected. Specifically for the future senior class, Ella Price was voted for president and Emily Bamford, Izzy Greene, and Rachel Mitry were picked as officers. Kiva Ingram-Albert was chosen as president along with Rowsha Ameri, Tomas Buzza Bertucci, and Jacob Gelb as officers for the future Junior class. For the sophomore class Matilda Hensly, Gavin Sussman, and Grace Wang have so far been voted for as officers.
Some positions were still undecided and were be determined through a runoff election on March 16. Students voted again to choose either Ryan Madison or Taylor Lyons for ASB Vice President and either Rowan Morris or Jordyn Spivak for Sophomore Class President.
In the end, Ryan Madison won ASB Vice president, and Jordyn Spivak won Sophomore Class President.
The elections have brought a lot of energy and school spirit to campus, as students had the chance to hear from candidates and participate in the voting process. Congratulations to our winners!
