LA Opera Choir Performance

On November 10th, a few lucky 6th-period classes got to come to the PAEC to watch a special performance featuring LA Opera actors alongside our own Agoura High School Choir.

A few months ago, LA Opera reached out to schools in the area with strong choir programs, and Agoura was one of the schools chosen. From there, the collaboration turned into an exciting musical project based on the old Mexican folktale La Mulata de Córdoba, reimagined with a modern and magical twist, which the LA Opera dubbed Journey to Córdoba.

The show was full of energy and positivity from start to finish. The LA Opera actors performed the lead opera roles, while the AHS choir performed all the background and chorus parts. Even though the choir was a little nervous at first, you couldn’t tell once the show began. “I was really excited and nervous about messing up, but in the end it was really good and I had a lot of fun,” said choir member Vedika Acharya, pretty much summing up how many of the students felt before and after performing. The choir sounded amazing and added so much to the atmosphere of the show. Their singing blended really well with the actors, and the whole performance felt awesome. It was clear how much effort and rehearsal went into making the story come alive onstage.

The audience noticed too. Teachers and students were talking about how impressed they were with the choir and how exciting it was to see professionals and high school students performing together afterward. The applause at the end showed just how much everyone enjoyed it.

Working with LA Opera gave the choir students a chance to see what a professional production is like, while also showcasing the talent we have here at Agoura. It’s an experience the choir will remember for a long time, and it highlighted how important and exciting the arts are at our school.
